Body
The Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) is a federal need-based grant for undergraduates with exceptional financial need. It is a campus-based program with limited funds, so how SF awards it matters:
- SF receives a capped annual allocation from the Department of Education.
- Awards go to the students with the lowest Student Aid Index (SAI) and the earliest FAFSA submission, on a first-come basis.
- SF does not publish a fixed SAI threshold.
- Once the allocation is fully awarded, no more FSEOG is available that year.
Eligibility
To receive FSEOG at SF, a student must:
- Have a completed FAFSA on file demonstrating exceptional financial need
- Be Pell-eligible
- Be enrolled in an eligible undergraduate program
- Meet the basic federal aid eligibility requirements
- Be enrolled in at least 6 eligible credit hours per semester
- Be meeting Satisfactory Academic Progress
Award Amount
FSEOG award amounts at SF vary by federal allocation, the number of eligible students, and individual financial need. The federal range is $100 to $4,000 per award year.
Enrollment and Disbursement
The award appears in the Financial Aid Portal [WEB LINK: eSantaFe login] once the aid offer is issued and disburses after enrollment is verified at the enrollment lock date. The award is canceled if enrollment falls below 6 credit hours at the enrollment lock date.
Withdrawal Impact
FSEOG is Title IV aid and is subject to the Return of Title IV calculation if a student completely withdraws before completing 60 percent of the semester.
Renewal
FSEOG is reviewed each year based on FAFSA submission, continued Pell eligibility, and SF's annual allocation. Funding is limited, so a previous recipient is not guaranteed FSEOG in a later year.
